Sisters, I would like to invite all of you to my place once again for another Movie Night. Last year's was a lot of fun; we watched Antonia's Line, ate some delicious food, and had a great time making new friends and catching up with old ones. Like last time, the movie will be a positive one that focuses on mother-daughter relationships. Cast your vote, and the winning movie will be the one we'll watch!!! 1) Mamma Mia! The Movie 2) Mermaids 3) Real Women Have Curves 4) Terms of Endearment 5) Steel Magnolias 6) How to Make an American Quilt 7) Evening (this one gets my personal vote because it stars real life mother-daughter duos, including Vanessa Redgrave and her daughter Natasha Richardson, who sadly passed away in a skiing accident a couple of months ago ... check out http://movies.about. com/od/evening/a/eve ningnr60507.htm) As for what to nosh on, we can either do potluck like we did last time, or order out. We can figure out what to do as it gets closer to the date. Hope to see y'all there! BTW, for those of you who are allergic to pets, I have a dog and a cat - just warning you so you can take antihistamines before you come over. :-) Love, Mary

Hello Sisters! Let's raise a tea cup to the fifth anniversary of the Mamma Mia Sisterhood! Please join us for a special pre-Mother's Day gathering with afternoon tea at the Ritz-Carlton in Buckhead. We'll honor our mothers and share friendship and support with each other. If you've never attended a Mamma Mia Sisterhood gathering, this is the perfect occasion to meet your sisters! Afternoon tea at the Ritz-Carlton is our annual tradition on the day before Mother's Day. We will share casual group discussion on mother loss and especially any issues that come up around Mother's Day. During our gathering, we'll also have "show and tell" if you'd like to share photos or mementos of your mother. Ask the staff of the Lobby Bar to seat you with the Mamma Mia Sisterhood or Motherless Daughters. The full afternoon tea menu will be available, but you are not obligated to purchase anything. Simply having your company will be a pleasure. (Valet parking is complimentary with any dining room purchases, so don't hesitate to valet park and bring your ticket in for validation. Self parking is not validated.) See you soon, Sisters! Cheers, Leslie (404) 202-9477 lswiedom@yahoo.com ~~ The Mamma Mia Sisterhood is an out-of-the-ordinary support group exclusively for women in the Atlanta area who have lost their mothers. Our mission is to provide a community for motherless women through shared feelings, experiences and humor. Hello sisters! It's been a while since we've had a movie night at a member's home, so why not? :-) Since the last one was Joy Luck Club, here are a few other possibilities - some of which are more about sister/friend relationships than mother/daughter relationships, but all of which feature strong women: Terms of Endearment ** Steel Magnolias ** Forrest Gump ** Fried Green Tomatoes ** Beaches ** Little Women (the contemporary version with Susan Sarandon) ** Real Women have Curves ** Evening (featuring 2 famous real-life mother-daughter actress duos) ** Auntie Mame ** Antonia's Line ** All About My Mother ** Please vote for your favorite by Sept 15th - I'll send for the winner from Netflix so it'll be here in time for our get-together. When y'all get here we can order some pizzas or a couple of trays of Pizza Hut Tuscani Pasta (if you haven't tried it before, it's delish!) and I can make a big Greek salad or regular garden salad and iced tea. Once you pull up to the gate, punch 218 on the call box so I can buzz you through. Go straight past the mail pavilion and the clubhouse. We are a little ways past the clubhouse, to the left, in Unit 38. You may park in any non-numbered parking space (all numbered spaces are assigned to residents). Hope to see you at this movie night!!!!

It's the meetup made for us, sisters! Mamma Mia, the movie, is open, and we'll attend a Sunday afternoon show together on July 27th. I'll Clear your afternoon for an escape to a Greek island full of ABBA music. The movie starts at 2:30pm, but meet us at 2:00pm just outside the theatre in the Phipps Plaza food court. Everyone should purchase her own movie ticket prior to that time (one level below the theatre). I'll have a "Motherless Daughters" book so you can find us. Or, just call my cell phone at 404.202.9477. We'll go inside and sit together. Movie summary: Raised on a Greek island by a formerly rebellious mom who never disclosed the identity of her father, a bride-to-be locates three men who might be her father and invites them to her wedding. Starring Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Amanda Seyfried, Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgard.

Actor's Express approached The Mamma Mia Sisterhood with a very special offer exclusively for our group to see their new production "When Something Wonderful Ends," a one-woman show. This is the story of a woman who has gone back to her childhood home to pack up the belongings after the death of her mother. As she finds remnants of her childhood from the 1960s and 1970s, she recounts what was happening in the Middle East as she was experiencing her carefree and unknowing existence here in the US, and throughout the play she lovingly recounts her warm memories of her mother, as well as how much she continues to miss her mother and continues to honor her. The playwright, Sherry Kramer, lays out beautifully how events and policies which began in the fifties and continued through the sixties and seventies set up the current situation we face today, and she moves all of us with her expressions of love, admiration and respect for her mother. The actor in the play lost her mother only a year ago. There's sure to be some references we can all relate to. After all, the tagline for the play is "One woman. One Barbie. One world." Call the Actor's Express box office directly at (404) 607-7469 to buy your ticket. We get $5 off the regular price just by mentioning "Motherless Daughters." (Our ticket price is $17.) Seats are not reserved, so we will all meet in the lobby at 1:15pm to chat and then sit together for the 2:00pm performance.
Cost:
$17.00

Welcome to a meetup to bring Valentine joy, and recover from holidays at the same time! We would like to get together at the home of Nancy Meyer on Sunday, Jan 27th from 2-4pm. So soon after the holidays, I would like to talk/reminisce about holidays without our Moms. Even 14 years after my Mom's death, it is still hard to go to Christmas eve service... Also, I would like us to get crafty and make Valentines ornaments for the women in a retirement home close by. I will supply the craft materials, you supply the imagination! Snacks will be provided, just bring whatever soda, tea, etc that you would like to drink. We are a casual group, just want to get together and chat.

Hello, Sisters! Our Mamma Mia sister Nancy Meyer has cooked up a brilliant idea for our December event and a fun way to honor our mothers for the holidays. (I unfortunately won't be able to attend because of a business trip, but I'll be there with you in spirit!) Here's a message from Nancy, who is graciously offering her home for the gathering... "Lets get together to make a Christmas ornament in memory of our moms! I was thinking of her picture on the front, and a picture of the group that gets together on the back. I will have all the supplies here, if you want to bring snacks that would be great, but I am more interested in just getting together. I know it is late notice, but if your schedule is like mine this time of year, I never know everything that needs attention till the last minute.... Hope to see you there." Here are some directions from Atlanta to Nancy's house: Hwy 85 South, Hwy 74 South into Peachtree City, after in PTC about 3 miles into the road construction, turn left on Crosstown Rd, turn right on Peachtree Pkwy, right on Braelinn Rd, right into Hamptons Corner, left onto Wensley Corner, right on Tiverton Trail) #213 Tiverton Trail. Phone: (770) 631-1840 e-mail: auntnancy@juno.com As always, the group will talk about mother loss issues and provide support for each other. We'll also have "show and tell" if you'd like to share photos or mementos of your mother. See you soon, Sisters, and keep smiling! Cheers, Leslie (404) 202-9477 lswiedom@yahoo.com
